Rattray’s on MalaMala

Kruger National Park, South Africa

About Rattray’s on MalaMala

Located in South Africa’s largest private big five game reserve, which shares a 19 km unfenced border with Kruger National Park camps, Rattray’s on MalaMala sits on the banks of Sand River, enveloped by trees.

Exuding colonial charm, the camp offers guests unparalleled immersion into the African bush, with exceptional game viewing opportunities.

The first reserve to switch from rifles to cameras, MalaMala is renowned for its photographic safaris. Experienced rangers know how to run sightings, and it is common for guests to encounter sleek cats up-close, especially lions and leopards, along with wild dogs with their distinctive markings and comically large ears.

The camp consists of luxurious khayas (a Zulu word meaning ‘home’), positioned along the gently running waters of the Sand River. A gym, infinity swimming pool and beautifully appointed library delight guests, along with an expansive wooden deck that plays host to the most sumptuous meals while also presenting an optimal spot for leisurely game viewing.

Why We Love Rattray’s on MalaMala

  • The unfenced border with Kruger National Park means game viewing is rich and diverse. Game vehicles generally only take four guests to ensure an intimate experience with nature.
  • History buffs will enjoy spending time in the bar, where a number of photographs, newspaper clippings, letters and more all weave together the storied tales of Rattray’s on MalaMala’s history.
  • Photographic opportunities abound with helpful rangers on hand to orchestrate sensational sightings to help guests capture the perfect picture during their safari adventure.
